Arriving in Rome - Unexpected Turbulents
We have never been so organized and prepared for a trip in our lives! Twenty four hours before departure, bags were packed, we were checked in with confirmed seat assignments, printed boarding passes and transportation from the airport to our hotel booked...that's good!
We woke up at 5:30 am to discover that British Airways had cancelled our flight...that's bad!
We called British Airways and were promptly rebooked on an earlier flight with a connection in London...that's good.
Upon closer inspection of our new itinerary, we discovered that our flight was to Gatwick airport with the connecting flight leaving from Heathrow airport...that's very bad!
We made another call to British Airways in London and they were able to reschedule us on a Lufthansa flight with a connection in Frankfurt...that's good!
We got on that flight which was delayed in Vancouver long enough to cause us to miss our connecting flight in Frankfurt...that's bad.
We arrived at the Frankfurt Lufthansa service desk to find that they had already rebooked us on a new Lufthansa connecting flight to Rome...that's good.
The flight's arrival time was so late that we would miss our car service pickup and acceptable check-in window at the hotel...that's bad.
We looked sad and exhausted and discouraged at the Lufthansa agent and she managed to get us onto an Air Italia flight 5 hours later and provided us food vouchers for a meal at the airport for the inconvenience...that's good.
The restaurant wouldn't honour the vouchers so we paid for the food and it sucked...that's bad.
We made our way to the gate in Frankfurt for our flight to Rome and the flight was scheduled on time...that's good.
Twenty minutes before our flight, we couldn't see an aircraft at our gate...that's bad.
We discovered the aircraft did in fact exist but was hidden from view and the efficient Italians had us loaded and pulling out from gate on time...that's good.
There was so much luggage in the overhead compartment that jamming it closed resulted in the latch breaking during the attempt to open it at the end of the flight...that's bad.
It wasn't our compartment...that's good.
We arrived on time in Rome at the same time as original flight would have gotten us here and we were reunited with our luggage...that's very good.
We arrived in time to connect with our car service and were safely delivered to our hotel in Rome. That's excellent!
We are here and the adventure begins right after we get some sleep. zzzzzzzzzz

Hopefully things go smoother from here on out!
