You can get lost in Rome!
September 15, 2023.
After our lengthy transit to Rome, we slept in and almost missed breakfast! But we were out the door of the hotel by 11 am with map in hand. Fifteen minutes later, we were back asking for help interpreting the map. The very nice young man at the desk took us to the door and pointed us in the direction opposite to which we had originally gone and we were off.
Rome is an amazing city of antiquity and quite frankly, we never knew which way to look. We saw sites were weren't looking for and needed help finding sites that tourists frequent. It seems you can hide massive domes in amongst buildings and narrow streets with ease. Luckily, there are polizia everywhere and they are most helpful!
By the time the day was done, we had visited the Piazza della Republica with its beautiful fountain, the Piazza Venicia and the Vittorio Emmanuel II monument, the Trevi fountain, the Spanish Steps, and the Piazza del Popolo. Oh, and did I mention churches? Many churches. Every block and sometimes twice in that space, there would be an open door to a magical space. We entered church after church in awe. The finale was the most amazing gelato we have ever tasted. I suspect that people in Rome have a gelato budget the way North Americans have their Starbucks cards. I would have to join a gym to live here to compensate for the gelato I would (and will) consume.
So today, we managed to log 20 kms. Tomorrow we will buy a SIM card for the phone so that we can use Google maps to guide our trek a little more efficiently.

Sounds like you are getting more than enough steps in to compensate for all that gelato! Great photos... we love that we get to follow along on your adventure!
